Biography

As a teacher educator, Dr. Kenreich has worked with teachers in Ohio, New York, Maryland, China, and Japan. His interests chiefly lie in the areas of social studies education and global citizenship education. With a range of international experiences, Dr. Kenreich seeks to prepare cosmopolitan teachers who can help their students more deeply understand our world and our community.

Dr. Kenreich is active in the social studies education community. He has served as national program chair of the Annual Meeting for in San Diego, and he served as the organization’s Treasurer. Dr. Kenreich also served as the Book Review Editor for Theory and Research in Social Education, the leading journal of social studies education. In addition, he was chair of the Public Relations Committee and a member of the Outstanding Secondary Social Studies Teacher Selection Sub-Committee for the .

In the media, he has been quoted in stories about educational issues by the Baltimore Sun, The Daily Record, and on Washington's WTOP 103.5 FM. He also has appeared as a panelist on Midday with Dan Rodricks on Baltimore’s WYPR 88.1 FM.

Research

With colleagues, Dr. Kenreich is currently writing guidelines for curriculum reform in the areas of global and international studies. He is also conducting an empirical study of maps in social studies textbooks in relation to disciplinary literacy.
