Member Posts: 1160 Joined: --	ONLY MY OPINION,,, #1, i don't know that ' so many are going out of business ' in the world of dec conc,,, but w/conc engraving, i'd guess buyers didn't investigate the trade/craft prior to buying the ' silver bullet ' to magic wealth,,, same thing's happening w/conc polishing now,,, field's being overbought/saturat'd & prices're plummeting,,, yet the good guys're still getting work at their pricing. i don't blame sellers as everyone's got to eat,,, if you can lead it to water & make it drink, its not a horse,,, i do think buyers make wrong decisions,,, they shouldn't be in this trade,,, not everyone can make a decent bagel. we'll occasionally discuss licensing dec conc artisans in this forum, c,,,, primarily, that'd restrict open access to those now in the trade who'd be grandfather'd in regardless of their skill levels,,, it'd also raise pricing to consumers/buyers by the few licens'd to practice the trade,,, both surveyors & florists in ga tried this & the result could've been forecast according to the law of unintended consequences,,, quality suffer'd & end-user pricing rose. licensing strikes me as similar to the argument of term limits for elected officials,,, redundant ! ! !,,, 1st, to what std of proficiency should anyone aspire; 2nd, who would administer such licensing; 3rd, what benefit would be gain'd & by whom ?,,, 4th, don't we all have enough govt. ' partners ' in our biz now ? ? ?,,, 5th, if a guys'r not a decent craftsman, he'll be gone soon enuff; 6th, by licensing, does the licensing agency certify the hold's reach'd a sufficient level of artistic worth ? ? ?; 7th, if you & i're BOTH licens'd, who's better bas'd on what criteria ? ? ?,,, 8th, why's anyone care long's they're eating well ? ? ? most dec conc artisans're already licens'd to operate,,, shall we pay more to accomplish what in defineable terms ? ? ?,,, if you succeed, does that hinder my success ? ? ?,,, doesn't a rising tide lift all boats ? ? ? let's all be careful of what we wish for, remember ? ? ? :-) its still oh-dark-thirty sunday,,, i should go back to bed. best [the original] yic-yac
