 GFRC GRC countertops etc

I am looking to set up a small studio for a few one-off projects around my hose and in my friends places.

Mostly counter tops in wet areas.

I have no concrete experience but I have time, money and a desire to learn - I am prepared to cast a fair few stepping stones for the garden!

I love the idea of GFRC.

Any advice or resources and machinery (can I use a drill press/old industrial kitchen blender instead of a mixer? are the sprayers cement-specific, is vibration casting going to be less equipment intensive...etc...)

Any tips and hints on using this mix will be greatly appreciated.

I'm in Perth

The American-centric forum thingie won't let me say I'm from anywhere else! I live in Perth. I used to live in Vancouver so I chose that.

GFRC or GRC is Glass Reinforced Concrete - up to 75% lighter than concrete, moldable like concrete - spray-on application or vibration cast. They say it is stronger than standard concrete too!

Methinks that as a precast medium it sounds fantastic - lift it with only one other bloke not 3, work molds by yourself, etc.

Looks like the art is in the mold more than the material now though...

Anyhow -

How's tricks in QLD

I have a good mate on Mt Tambourine who works in construction...

Ooops, our apologies, we'll look into the location thingy, just an oversight and thanks for the input. If there are any other issues, please let us know, we do want to make this forums useful and informative for all.

I work fly in fly out so I have a lot of time off and I am a bit handy with wood for formwork (molds) and so I want to do some decorative stuff around my home.

Countertops for the workshop then the wet areas when I'm a bit better. GRC is interesting to me because of its light weight and strength but no one here uses it except for tilt-panels!

After that I want to polish and stain a couple of floors (again start in the shed and work toward the main rooms) - or possibly do a stained skim coat.
