We were involved from beginning of the pour. No additives to concrete, trowel finished with a rougher texture to easily accept stain. Went and did the test patch, shot malayan buff let dry then shot down coffee brown, waited 27 hrs then went with a soft bristled brush and water and color washed off as if it didn't take at all. No matter what manufactures stain it all does the same washes off surface if it is new concrete no matter what finish is applied to the surface.

what your saying makes no sense. No additives to the concrete? So, your redi-mix supplier brings you rock, sand, cement, and water; that's all? Todays concrete has so much shit it, that it is almost impossible to tell what you are going to get. Find the batch ticket and look into the mix design, almost all of the chemicals used now negatively effect the reaction with acid stains. For the most part, concrete still reacts with acid. Maybe batch man had to many cocktails the previous night. Too much of a good thing ain't always. This applies to the cocktails and the chemicals used in redi-mix

it has to be an additive. this isn't a complicated process. all good concrete reacts with acid stain.

lots of contractors these days are using a water-resistant or densifying admixture in their concrete. that's probably what it is.

does water absorb and darken the concrete? does muriatic acid fizz when it hits the surface?

if not, the only thing you can do is sand or grind the surface and try some more samples.

Thanks guys! It just gets frustrating some times, you have probably been in my shoes a time or two before.

After some more research and arm twisting we found out the bonehead cement contractor added calcium to the pour...even though instructed not to......
