 How long to score?

I just stamped a 700 sq ft driveway on Friday and the temps are creeping over 90 and it is windy. We used a 4500 psi mix and a jumbo stone stamp. Should I get over there and score expansion joints this weekend or will it be fine in these temps until Monday morn?

If the temps are that high, you should already have cut the joints by now. Control joints need to be cut as soon as possible without ravelling and chipping the joints.

you need to cut the concrete right away.it probaly is looking for a weak spot already to crack.problem is you won't know where it is.if you wait any longer it problaby won't crack on the diamond joint.it will crack on the weak spot probably where an uneven thinner spot is on the bottem where you cannot see .if it is on a sand or stone base and you did not wetten the base the moisture will get sucked out the bottem and randomly crack

we poured over a mix of lime rock and pea gravel (the old driveway) and sprayed it for a long time to keep it saturated before the pour. I went this afternoon and scored it every nine feet on diagonal one way and I will go back and core it every nine feet the other way. We are doing a 3x3 pattern on a 45 so that is the reason for 9 foot joints. A little relief after getting those first cuts done. I will feel better after tommorrow bt I should be good.

might've pick'd worse conditions but its done,,, curious - why 4,500 ???

any conc design's secondary to conc's more important rqmts as it needs to be plac'd, finish'd, & cured properly including a proper jnt pattern,,, only THEN can we do our fancy designs & colors,,, you may've exacerbated the potential for disaster by only cutting 1 way,,, now you've got a longer piece of conc which's prone to crk faster,,, steve'll come to the same conclusion.

the point of all this is: better do the conc right the 1st time or you'll be doing it a 2nd,,, hope you got lucky, dust,,, we'll see in a year.
