Non-Degree Applicants

Non-degree enrollment is for students who do not intend to earn a degree from Towson University (TU) and instead wish to take a small number of courses for personal, professional, or academic reasons.

Course Availabilty

Non-degree students must identify their intended TU course(s) as part of the application process. Non-TU students may search for classes in the course catalog. Please ensure you are selecting the correct intended start-term as you view intended course availability. 

Admissions Criteria 

There are only select student types are permitted to apply as a non-degree candidate. To be considered for admission as a non-degree student, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • College Graduate
  • Visiting Student
  • Age 60 or older
  • High School Dual Enrollment Student

College Graduate

College graduates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution. Students must submit either: 

  • Official transcript conferring degree completion from the degree-granting institution. OR  
  • Official letter from the degree-granting institution certifying the degree and date earned.

Note: Non-degree applicants who earned their degree from TU do not need to submit official transcripts.  

Visiting Student 

 Visiting students are currently enrolled at another college or university and seek to take TU courses to transfer credits back to their home institution Students must submit:  

  • Visiting student permission form from their home institution, which TU will provide after the non-degree application is submitted. This requirement ensures the intended TU course(s) will apply for transfer credit back to the home institution.

Note: If you are currently attending a  institution or a local Baltimore institution, please check whether you qualify for Inter-Institutional Registration before submitting a non-degree application. 

Age 60 or Older

Students of any academic background who must be at least 60 years old by the first day of their intended term or semester. Applicants must submit:  

  • Valid driver’s license, passport, or birth certificate for age verification.  

Note: Retired Maryland residents aged 60 or older who are not working full time may qualify for the Golden I.D. Tuition Waiver Program, which allows discounted, space-available enrollment in most courses up to specified unit limits. Students must be admitted as a non-degree student to be eligible and complete additional steps

High School Dual Enrollment Student 

Current high school juniors and seniors who wish to take TU courses for college credit should apply through our dual enrollment program. Students must submit: 

  • Permission from a school counselor or principal 
  • Official high school transcript

Note: Home-schooled students must send the most recent curriculum evaluation from their supervising organization.   

Special permission from TU is required to take upper-level (300-level or higher) courses. Permission is not guaranteed, and will be reviewed upon completion of the dual enrollment non-degree application. 

Application Information

Students must complete a non-degree application, provide the required materials listed above, and submit a $50 non-refundable application fee.

Additional Information

Continuous enrollment is available for non-degree applicants who are college graduates or age 60+. Dual enrollment and visiting students must reapply for each term. For additional information on the registration policies, please visit the .
